Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation
|
Oasis’s professional psychiatric evaluation is used to properly identify and diagnose emotional, behavioral or developmental disorders in an individual. An evaluation of an adolescent or adult is made based on those behaviors present or stemming from: 1) substance abuse; 2) environmental or social issues; 3) cognitive skills; 4) emotional or physical behaviors; 5) genetic background; or 6) educational status.
Problem Identified
Many times families, spouses or friends are the first to suspect that their loved one is having a problem. This realization may include identifying problems relating to or with: 1) substance abuse; 2) relationships with family members or friends; 3) issues at work or school; 4) sleeping or eating disorders; 5) lack of, or aggressive emotional expression; 6) personal development; or 7) general attentiveness or responsiveness. It is important that families or friends who suspect that a problem in one or more of these areas exists - they should have their loved one seek immediate professional treatment at Oasis Clinical Services at the earliest possible date.
Comprehensive psychiatric evaluation – How is it conducted
Recognizing that every individual’s symptoms and behaviors are unique, each evaluation must be managed and approached differently. However, the most common components found in a comprehensive diagnostic psychiatric evaluation are:
- Psychiatric interview
- Personal and family history of any emotional, behavioral, or developmental disorders
- Complete personal medical history, including description of the individual's overall physical health. List of any treatments or medications currently being administered at other facilities.
- Description of symptoms (physical and psychiatric)
- Description of behaviors past and present (i.e. occurrence, setting, duration)
-
Effects of behaviors/symptoms as related to the following:
- work performance
- substance abuse
- school performance
- relationships and interactions with others (i.e., spouse, co-workers, family members, neighbors)
- activity involvement
