Behavioral Health Group Overview
|
Everyday life can be overwhelming at times, and sometimes people just need a little help when coping with their problems. Their situation may not be severe enough to require an overnight hospital stay, but often the individual’s problem is serious - and routine counseling just won’t help. To address those specific cases where a higher level of care is needed - Oasis Clinical Services offers it’s professionally managed Partial Care Program (PCP).
Pyscho-Educational / Processing Group
This group meets daily at Oasis and incorporates an educational component into the traditional group therapy lesson plan. Clients are urged to verbalize all of their feelings and issues during these group settings. It is the goal of this group to “normalize” the client’s illness through constant support and feedback from counselors and peers. Also, each client’s medication consumption and compliance will be monitored and documented.
Music And Art Therapy
Oasis Clinical Services recognizes that communication comes in many forms. Through our music and art therapy groups, we encourage the client to “act out” their feelings. Many of our clients appreciate this form of artistic expression, as it gives them a comfortable setting in which they can share hidden or repressed personal issues and feelings with other group members.
Expressive Journal Writing
Much like our music and art therapy group, our clients are encouraged to express themselves through journal writing. Our writing group gives our clients an opportunity to document their feelings, concerns, shortcomings and triumphs – all in a keepsake journal. The contents of this journal will encompass their stay at Oasis, and remind them of how they successfully overcame their personal hurdles, pain and depression while in treatment.
Anger Management Group
This group enables the client to see how anger and depression compounds or causes other problems to occur in their lives. This group also identifies and demonstrates how closely related anger and depression really are. Clients are provided with options on how to both control and minimize issues relating to anger and depression - all before the problem potentially gets out of hand.
Pyscho-Drama & Role Playing
Similar to our other art therapy programs, role playing can introduce the client to another form of expression. Personal relationships, feelings, or other issues can be “played out” by both the client and their peers. Often times, the acting out of various problem scenarios can actually help prevent them from occurring – especially now that the client can better understand and recognize the repercussions of their actions.
Interpersonal Skill Building
This group enables our clients to start identifying personal problems that they may have within themselves. Many issues, including personal relationships and social skills are discussed and addressed. Other group members may reflect upon their own personal experiences in an effort to help the client better understand their outside relationships.
Adult Life Skills
Many of our clients have had to take care of themselves – all without any direction or help from their parents, relatives, teachers or friends. Others may have been “coddled”, or they just simply lack the general life skills necessary to move forward in life. This group begins to educate the client in areas such as general finance, paying bills, balancing check books, resume writing, the importance of health insurance, personal hygiene, education and other life skills
Educational / Vocational Group
This group takes the information that was generated during our adult life skills program and puts it to good use. Clients are introduced to educational institutions where they can pursue their GED, or try to achieve higher educational goals. Clients are also evaluated on their overall weaknesses and strengths as they specifically relate to their vocational choices. Clients are introduced to various community based employment groups, as well as DVR and other organizations that may help them obtain training and employment.
Life Stories
This group is actually a forum in which the client can expose their problems and inner self to their peers. This group is used to develop trust, as well as to help identify the common issues and goals of its group members. This sequence helps start the normalization process as it relates to a person learning to live and function with their mental illness.
Weekend Planning
During this session, clients will plan their weekend activities away from Oasis. Typical plans include outside meetings, family gatherings, employment opportunities, as well as possible recreational or sporting events. A concise plan that addresses any anxieties or issues that the clients feels may occur during the weekend is agreed to – thus giving the client the best chance to enjoy a successful and relaxing weekend.
Medication Management
Our staff psychiatrist facilitates this group. All medication questions, refills, or reactions to medications are fully discussed and documented. Pharmacology of drugs, their interactions, and the potential lethal combinations of medications and drugs are also reviewed and discussed.
